OBEY GIANT

http://obeygiant.com/

Work by a man named Shepard Fairey, who has been designing quality work for twenty one years now. Lots of red, blue and black prints. Designed the hugely popular 'Hope' poster (below) for the current American president, Barak Obama and used in his 2008 presidential campaign.

Has to be said I am very keen on his work, and the contrasting colours in almost all his pieces never seem out of place. Would undoubtedly be time-consuming and very finicky to create something of this calibre.

Black, White & Shades of Grey

Most of my more impressive work has been made as a photogram. There should be one of those machines in every home!

Job on the side

JS Riders:
A look at a design I made back during the first year at college. After developing a few ideas in a project based on t-shirt design I decided to start over, but use one of the existing photographs I had as a template. I then traced over the image using the pen tool in Adobe Illustrator, being as true to the original image as was possible.
The design was made with a simple colour scheme in mind, to keep the cost of having the design printed low.

Books I've read no. 2

 Making Money:
One of the more recent additions to the 'Discworld' series. The Discworld books are excellent in the fact that while they remain part of a collection, each book can be read individually without having to return to previous releases to see what such and such was all about.

The Zombie Survival Guide:
Sort of a factual fiction book with detailed and thorough instructions, survival lists and strategies on how to survive an outbreak when it should occur. An interesting subject, the book itself would be difficult to read all in one sitting though. Not due to the amount of pages but rather the amount of motivation it requires to read - took me a good three months or so.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo:
A very popular book at the minute and part of the millennium trilogy. Story wades into grim territory somewhere near the mid-point but that isn’t a negative thing. Involves two protagonists: The financial journalist Mikael Blomkvist & Lisbeth Salander – private investigator. A little slow to start but overall a fantastic book to read, and very engaging for the reader - I had a hard time putting it down!

Books I've read

The Da Vinci Code:  Kind of a difficult book to get into, but interesting nevertheless. Read this one due to the controversy surrounding it at the time, which appears to have died down since the books release. Surrounded in controversy due to the content, the catholic church was not best pleased to see its release in the shops. Story revolves around an ordinary (if intelligent) man named Robert Langdon solving ancient mysteries and getting himself into a spot of bother.

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy:  A very curious book to read. The subject matter (earth blows up, man travels the universe, meets people & potters around a little) is radically different from most stories found in fiction. The method of telling the story employed by the late author (Douglas Adams), is also something to take note of. Every sentence is composed and structured in a strange yet simplified way which is a breath of fresh air in a book like this.

Lords of the bowA book following the story of the famous warlord & Mongolian Ghengis Khan. The story within is not historically proven to have been correct, but is more the author's ideas and thoughts on how the man could have come to be. This is the one book I have read of the series of four, each of which charts a different stage in his life.

Northern LightsA highly controvertial book which has been compared to the catholic church. Aimed at a teenage audience, the protaganist is only a young person herself. The film (heavily based on the book) was lucky to see the light of day after the astounding amount of controversy it generated even before release.
